Why are the cost of flowers increasing?

You maybe wondering why the price of flowers seems to have gone up and why there just isn’t quite the same selection available as usual.
Your probably asking yourself
Why have the flowers go up in price?
Why am i not getting as many stems in a bunch anymore?

It can feel like the price of everything has gone up at times, and it may be because it has. Flowers are no exception (unfortunately). Many of our clients have mentioned how they used to be able to obtain exactly what they needed and have it delivered right away or within a few days. They now frequently have to wait for that thing, and they may not receive it at all.
Many causes have contributed to an increase in the price of cut flowers, ranging from the climate crisis to a global pandemic to the local job market. We wanted to explain why you might be noticing an increase in the price of flowers.

Farmers and suppliers around the world were compelled to pull crops or let them die in the fields as lockdowns were imposed around the world. Due to regulations, farmers around the world were faced with the painful decision of destroying hundreds of millions of blooms in the spring of 2020. Entire crops were unable to reach market, and many growers were forced to close their doors. It is estimated that roughly 400 million flowers were destroyed in the Netherlands alone at that time.
Flower prices are increasing with the demand and the quantity of the flower that is being sent to auction. During the pandemic Dutch growers shut down the heater and dramatically reduced the number of stock that they are producing. This has created a significant impact on the auction and caused a demand in competition over flower, what this means is that less flower is being sent to auction, with higher demand for the product this has led to the increase in flower cost making it more desirable to purchase.

Shipping and delivery are both a source of difficulty and escalating expenses. Then there's the job market. Some growers are having trouble finding drivers to transport their flowers to markets.
Increased paper work and import check carried out before leaving for the UK have led to increasing the cost of flowers with additional customers and border charges on flowers,
